Appointed
as the Riversiders` boss just over a year ago, Nurse guided the side to a top
half finish in a season that was ultimately cut short due to the national
pandemic, and to the semi-finals of the League Cup that were never played.
However,
with the uncertainty over the start date of the new campaign and due to
increased work commitments, Nurse has taken the decision to step down ahead of
the restart, along with his assistants Joe Shaw and Michael Paparozzi.
Nurse
told the club`s website: “I've really enjoyed the last twelve months, and would
like to thank Mick Bland, the committee and all the players for their support
over the last year.
“Despite
the season being disrupted due to the bad weather, and then being cut short due
to Coronavirus, we were in a good position to finish the season strongly so it
was a shame that it ended how it did.
“We
had a really positive meeting with the committee just over a week ago, but with
all that's going on, the uncertainty of when the season will actually start,
and with some changes with Joe, Michael and my own work commitments over the
next few months, we've all agreed that at this moment in time we couldn't
commit to the extent that we would all want to, to do the club justice.
Hopefully the committee can find someone with the time to commit to this great
club, and build on the work that we started last season”. |
