Manager
Matt Easton thought his business for the summer was complete and had no
intention of signing any further players.
However,
left-sided centre-half Ben Richards caught his eye during the Tulips’ 4-0 win
at Harrowby United last week.
The
21-year-old was with Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division Cottesmore
AFC last season and also went on trial with Harrowby.
Easton
made an approach and Richards featured in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at
Cleethorpes Town in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy quarter finals.
“Probably
three of the back four last Saturday won’t be what we start the season with,
but Ben came in and did very well,” Easton told https://www.spaldingtoday.co.uk.
“I saw him in our game at Harrowby and did a bit of digging.
"I
found out that he wasn’t committed to anyone and was told that no one would
stand in his way.
“Ben
wants to make the step up and he’s a good, young lad with a great attitude -
just what we’re looking for.”
Easton
is looking forward to cementing his formation before the opener on Saturday when
the Tulips travel to Sutton Coldfield Town.
