A long-term target of City manager Ross Jenkins, Fonkeu adds power and versatility to the Hoops squad ahead of our first season in the National League. Fonkeu, who can play in a variety of positions in the attacking line, joins the Hoops after an impressive season with National League South side Dartford. Born in Belgium, Fonkeu graduated from Club Brugge’s academy before moving to England with Norwich City. The forward then moved to French club Lens in 2019 before transferring to Bulgarian First League side Beroe. He was also part of the Cameroon U23 squad for the 2019 African U23 Cup of Nations. In 2021, he returned to England with then National League side Weymouth, after a delay with his international clearance meant a move to EFL side Grimsby Town broke down. However, in 2022 he made the move to Hemel Hempstead in National League South, impressing during his time at Vauxhall Road. That good run of form earned Fonkeu a move to Dartford, where he scored ten goals for the Kent side in the last campaign.
