Carruthers joins the Clarets following his departure from league rivals Dartford. The 30-year-old made 36 appearances for Dartford last season amassing 10 goals and 14 assists, landing him a spot in the National League South team of the season. Carruthers had moved to the Darts in the summer of 2022 from another league rival, Hemel Hempstead Town, where he had been since December 2020. A former Republic of Ireland under-19 and under-21 international, he started his career with Aston Villa and whilst at Villa Park, spent six months on loan at MK Dons, making 23 appearances and scoring 2 goals. He joined the Dons on a more permanent basis in the summer of 2014 and played another 94 matches, scoring 6 goals. Moves to Sheffield United and Cambridge United followed before joining the Tudors. Manager Robbie Simpson told https://chelmsfordcityfc.com: “I’ve known and spoken to Samir for a number of years now. Whenever we’ve played against him my focus as a defensive gameplan has always been about stopping him. Whoever he has played for he’s been the key to their attacking threat and creativity. More often than not, if you stop Samir you limit the opposition’s chances of scoring. That says it all in terms of how much I value him as a player, as a creative player. I think it speaks for itself that he was in the Team of the Year this year. He’s just a top player at this level. “We’ve been speaking for a couple of weeks now and I’m delighted to get it over the line and he’s going to be a massive signing for us. I just can’t wait to see him in a Claret shirt.” Wordsworth (pictured) joins the Clarets from Pitching In Isthmian League Premier Division side Enfield Town. The 34-year-old had joined Town in November 2022 from Cheshunt, where he had been since September 2022 after spending a year in Ireland with Waterford. He moved across the Irish sea from Barnet, where he had been since November 2020. He has vast experience and joined the Bees having played for League One side AFC Wimbledon. He made 56 appearances during his time with The Dons in a two-year period before his contract ran out at the end of last season. He made over 380 senior appearances across the Championship and League One, scoring 67 goals in all competitions. His move to The Hive London became his first outside of League One. The Camden-born player, who started his career with Wimbledon and then Colchester United, for whom he made 177 appearances and scored 35 goals, is strong in both boxes and has an eye for goal. After leaving the U`s he spent a couple of seasons with Ipswich Town and then played 79 times with 18 goals for Southend United before joining the Dons. Simpson added:“Obviously with Liam Trotter retiring and being such a key player for us last season, we really wanted to try and get experience and leadership in the middle of the pitch. We wanted Football League experience as well and he Anthony brings a wealth of that. He’s a fantastic footballer, he’s a good size and he’s a great character to have in any dressing room, we are absolutely delighted to sign him and bring him to the Clarets as he’s going to bring a lot to us. “He’s most recently been out at Waterford in Ireland and we actually had a conversation, after his first season out in Ireland, to try and bring him to the Football Club but he ended up doing another year in Ireland with Waterford. Last season, he ended up carrying on playing football for Enfield Town because he knew people there and they were trying to get in the play-offs. They took him in and he played a good number of games for them. He picked up an injury towards the back end of the season and I’m fairly certain if it wasn’t for that, they would have made the play-offs. He’s had a taste of non-League football in England and that will help with his adaptability to the level”.
