Hilton quit following Saturday`s Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round defeat by Northern Counties East League neighbours Handsworth.

His assistant Lee Thompson will take over managerial duties while the search for a new manager take place.

Chairman Graham Furness told https://stocksbridgeps.co.uk: “I would just like to put on record the clubs thanks for the excellent job Chris has done over the last seven years

“Chris joined the club in 2014 and his remit was to stabilise the team after a couple of years flirting with relegation, he did that in his first year and created a squad that then went on to challenge in play off positions and have successful runs in the FA trophy competition ;he also helped Harrison Biggins develop into a mature player who them went on to sign for Fleetwood Town FC.

“He also helped Ben Rhodes, Brodie Litchfield and Lewis Whitham come through our youth and reserve system into the first team squad.

“Over the last two years I have worked closely with Chris in my role as chairman, unfortunately due to covid restrictions we have not had the luxury of finishing a full season which two years ago robbed us of a possible play-off position. I have seen first-hand the effort Chris puts into the managers role and I know he will not have taken his decision this weekend lightly, but he has this club at heart and sometimes things just run their natural course. I am sure Chris will be in great demand in the future and when he’s had chance to recharge his batteries he will be back in the dug-out.

“We would like to wish Chris and his family all the best for the future”.
