Manager Danny
Greaves has swooped to bring in defender George Rigg from Vanarama National
League South side Chippenham Town.
The 27-year-old
signed for Chippenham in the summer of 2018 from league rivals Bath City.
On the books at
Bristol City, Stoke City, Exeter City and Bristol Rovers as a youngster, he has
also had spells with Weston-super-Mare and Weymouth.
Greaves
told his club`s website: “I am delighted to complete the signing of George Rigg
from Chippenham Town. To be able to sign a player of his pedigree and standing
in the non-League game, but also to bring in a lad with clear outstanding
ability, a great character and hunger to achieve something with us, is a
massive coup for a club like ours.
“We
are always looking for players who can strengthen the group, and Riggy
certainly does that for a number of reasons. You don't play for Bath, Weymouth
and captain Chippenham on occasions, and play in well over 200 games at National
League South level, if you don't have that something a little bit special about
you.
“We
have been aware of him for some time but was never really on our radar due to
the gap in levels, but sometimes in life, circumstances just align. Whether
that be family, work, or location, and that’s what has happened in this case.
We clearly can’t compete with Chippenham financially, and the many other teams
who made offers to Riggy in the last week, but everything else has aligned
which means it is a good fit for everyone at this moment in time.
“I
am delighted he has chosen Frome as his next move in his footballing journey,
and having had numerous conversations with him, and after training with the
group for the first time on Thursday night, I am sure he will fit straight in
and will play a big part in what will be and exciting period for the club”. |
